How Ivermectin Tablets Work
Mechanism of Action:
Ivermectin binds selectively and with high affinity to glutamate-gated chloride ion channels in the nerve and muscle cells of parasites. This binding increases the permeability of the cell membrane to chloride ions, causing hyperpolarization, paralysis, and eventual death of the parasite.
The drug acts specifically on parasites without affecting the human nervous system at therapeutic doses, as it does not readily cross the blood–brain barrier.
