Product Introduction
SALT COMPOSITION: Gefitinib (250mg)
Dosage Form: Tablet (For Oral Use Only)
Storage: Store below 30Β°C. Protect from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.
Gefitinib Tablets are a targeted anticancer medication used primarily for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) that is locally advanced, metastatic, or recurrent. It belongs to the class of EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) and is specifically indicated for patients whose tumors have epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations, as identified through diagnostic testing.
Gefitinib works by selectively inhibiting the EGFR tyrosine kinase enzyme, which plays a key role in the signaling pathways responsible for cell proliferation, survival, and metastasis. By blocking this enzyme, Gefitinib halts the growth and spread of cancer cells while sparing most normal cells.
Uses of Gefitinib Tablets
Treatment of locally advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with activating EGFR mutations
Used as first-line therapy in EGFR mutation-positive lung cancer patients
May be prescribed in patients who have previously received chemotherapy for advanced NSCLC
Helps slow disease progression and improve lung function and quality of life
Benefits of Gefitinib Tablets
Targeted therapy: Specifically inhibits cancer cells with EGFR mutations, minimizing harm to healthy cells
Improves progression-free survival (PFS) in EGFR-positive NSCLC patients
Oral formulation allows convenient at-home administration
Better tolerability compared to conventional chemotherapy
Delays cancer growth and improves respiratory symptoms and general well-being
How Gefitinib Tablets Work
Gefitinib exerts its anticancer effect by blocking EGFR-mediated signaling pathways that promote tumor growth and survival.
Mechanism of Action:
EGFR Inhibition: Gefitinib competitively binds to the adenosine triphosphate (ATP)-binding site of the EGFR tyrosine kinase enzyme.
Signal Blockade: This prevents phosphorylation and downstream activation of signaling cascades (such as RAS/RAF/MEK/ERK and PI3K/AKT pathways).
Tumor Cell Suppression: The result is inhibition of cancer cell proliferation, induction of apoptosis (cell death), and reduced angiogenesis (formation of new blood vessels that feed tumors).
Side Effects
Common side effects:
Skin rash or acne-like eruptions
Diarrhea
Nausea and vomiting
Loss of appetite
Fatigue
Dry skin or itching
Elevated liver enzymes
Serious but rare side effects:
Interstitial lung disease (ILD): Shortness of breath, cough, or fever (requires immediate medical attention)
Severe liver toxicity: Jaundice, dark urine, or abdominal pain
Severe diarrhea or dehydration
Eye irritation or inflammation
Severe allergic reactions (swelling, rash, or breathing difficulties)
Seek medical attention immediately if you develop signs of lung problems, jaundice, or allergic reactions.
Safety Advice
Alcohol:
Limit alcohol consumption as it may worsen liver-related side effects.
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding:
Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Gefitinib can cause fetal harm; women of childbearing potential should use effective contraception during and after treatment.
Kidney/Liver:
Use with caution in patients with moderate to severe hepatic impairment. Liver function tests should be performed before and during treatment.
Diet & Administration:
Take Gefitinib Tablets once daily with or without food at the same time each day.
Swallow whole with water. If unable to swallow, it can be dispersed in water (do not crush or chew).
Maintain adequate hydration and a balanced diet during therapy.
Medical Supervision:
Use strictly under the guidance of an oncologist experienced in targeted ther
