Product Introduction
SALT COMPOSITION: Abiraterone Acetate (250mg / 500mg)
Dosage Form: Tablet (For Oral Use Only)
Storage: Store below 30Β°C. Protect from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.
Abiraterone Acetate Tablets are an androgen biosynthesis inhibitor used in the treatment of metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) and metastatic high-risk castration-sensitive prostate cancer (mCSPC) in adult men. Abiraterone works by selectively inhibiting the enzyme CYP17 (17Ξ±-hydroxylase/C17, 20-lyase), which is critical in the production of androgens (testosterone) β hormones that promote the growth of prostate cancer cells.
By lowering androgen levels in the body, Abiraterone slows tumor growth, helps control disease progression, and improves survival in patients with advanced prostate cancer. It is typically administered in combination with prednisone or prednisolone to counteract mineralocorticoid excess caused by androgen suppression.
Uses of Abiraterone Acetate Tablets
Treatment of metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC)
Treatment of metastatic castration-sensitive prostate cancer (mCSPC)
Used in combination with corticosteroids (e.g., prednisone/prednisolone)
Helps delay disease progression and improve quality of life in prostate cancer patients
Benefits of Abiraterone Acetate Tablets
Effectively inhibits androgen production at all sources (testes, adrenal glands, and tumor tissue)
Slows tumor growth and extends survival in advanced prostate cancer
Reduces pain and delays skeletal-related complications
Can be administered orally β convenient, non-invasive treatment option
Improves overall treatment outcomes when combined with corticosteroids
How Abiraterone Acetate Tablets Work
Abiraterone acts through targeted inhibition of androgen biosynthesis:
CYP17 Enzyme Inhibition:
Blocks the 17Ξ±-hydroxylase and C17, 20-lyase activities of CYP17, reducing androgen synthesis from both adrenal and intratumoral sources.
Androgen Deprivation:
Decreases testosterone and other androgen levels, depriving cancer cells of growth stimuli.
Enhanced Efficacy with Corticosteroids:
Co-administration with prednisone/prednisolone helps manage side effects such as hypertension, hypokalemia, and fluid retention by balancing corticosteroid levels.
Side Effects
Common side effects:
Fatigue or weakness
Joint pain
Fluid retention (swelling of legs or ankles)
Hot flashes
High blood pressure
Upset stomach or diarrhea
Serious but rare side effects:
Adrenal insufficiency
Liver toxicity (jaundice, dark urine)
Irregular heartbeat
Low potassium levels
Allergic reactions (rash, difficulty breathing)
Seek immediate medical help if symptoms of liver damage, severe weakness, or allergic reactions occur.
Safety Advice
Alcohol: Limit alcohol consumption to reduce liver strain.
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding: Not for use in women. Can cause fetal harm if handled during pregnancy. Women who are pregnant should avoid direct contact with broken or crushed tablets.
Kidney/Liver: Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment. Regular liver function tests are recommended before and during therapy.
Diet & Exercise: Take on an empty stomach β at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after food β as food increases systemic exposure to Abiraterone. Maintain a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle to support therapy.
Medical Supervision:
Take exactly as prescribed by a qualified oncologist. Always co-administer with prednisone/prednisolone. Monitor liver enzymes, blood pressure, and potassium levels regularly during treatment.
